Box Eds Homes

I've always seen papertoys as having an extended life after they've been built. Collections look cool sat on the shelf, but the audience I've always had in mind has been kids and kids love to roleplay. So I've been working on prototypes for 'homes' where Box Edward and Box Edwina can live and play!

There's two versions of the stadium, the second has a little more height than the first. You can see some bits of design in the treehouse but I felt I needed to get the structures right as this will dictate how the designs are illustrated. I got desperate for parts at one stage with the treehouse and stole some bits from one of the fairies!

I'll put up colour versions in a couple of weeks, hopefully I'll get some time over the holiday season. Both the treehouse and the second stadium stand at about 40cm high.

Posh printed Fairy Edwina

And even more!!!

Posh printed Footy Ed

There's more! Bugger! Forgot to get the ball in there.

I was a teenage hand model.

Busy, busy, busy! Like Little Barry Bee buzzing about in Buzzville, Bees Town, Beeland, Arizona. Three lots of stuff that is getting real close to the finished article. Well two and a half really, got lots to do on my Josh Homme Box Ed. Speaking of which . . .

Josh Homme Box Ed sneak peak

Well I've been tinkering like a tinkering tinky thing, who came second in the tinkering world championships in Tinkersville, Tinkland, on my Fairy Eds and Footy Eds! No major changes, I've been getting things just so.

Anyway to relieve some of the tedium I've also been working on a Josh Homme (QOTSA, Them Crooked Vultures) Box Ed. Very close to finishing, and hope to have him printed and built this weekend. So until then here's a sneak peak at some of the details.

Box Ed Queen

Nothing much to update this week, and probably for the next few. I'm just making some adjustments to my Footy Eds and Fairy Edwinas which I want to complete by the end of October. It's gonna be quite tedious work but necessary, so I might not share every slight change of angle or fractional adjustment to the colour or width of an eyebrow!

As some slight relief I've made the first attempt to combine my creative passions - Caricatures and Paper Toys. And look what plopped out the other end - Josh Homme QOTSA and Them Crooked Vultures fame! I've almost finished his head, I'll do the body this week and then should be ready to build the next.

Box Ed variations

No new builds this week, still tinkering to perfect the template. So thought I'd share some of my ideas and sketches. I've always seen my paper toys as being a family, coming in a range of themes and genres. Now that the footy season is outta the way I can start to concentrate on a set of pirates or robots or who knows!?!

Monday 24 September 2012

Hawthorn, Sydney, Collingwood, Adelaide.

Footy Finals fever has had Victoria (at least) gripped for the last few weeks and things are coming to the boil. Sydney and Hawthorn will meet in the final after overcoming Collingwood and Adelaide respectively. So in celebration of the those marauding Sherrin chasers I've customised my Box Eds with the teams colours as well as trying to reflect a certain amount of the ethnic mix that blossoms in Australia.

I've added paper fasteners between the head and body, and also to the arms so they become a bit more animated. Further tweaks and changes are still needed to reach the professional standard I'd like. And I'm not happy with a certain brand of sticky tape which claims to be invisible but is clearly not! But hopefully by the start of the 2013 AFL season these guys will be available to fans of Footy throughout Victoria and beyond, and in whichever guernsey you barrack for!?!
